This great little band came down to play for us at our SHINDIG night t’other week, and after a little bit of faffing with bandcamp, you can now listen and download their set from £0+. Check it out below:
According to Bandcamp, someone recently came across ‘Living Room’ by Googling “determine the ph of a .0034m hno3 solution”. For everyone who hasn’t Googled that, you can buy it for next to nothing (or download it for free)
Yesterday we went to do the finishing touches for our 3 new demos at Jack Allett’s house. Jack mastered all of the Living Room songs so we knew it would be a good day.
In between each going in and recording our last parts, we managed to fit in two whole dvds - Slow Century about Pavement and We Jam Econo about Minutemen.
I forgot to take photos of actually doing any work. I guess I was distracted by all the dvd watching. But to make up for it, here are some blurry photos.
The 3 songs are now being mixed and mastered and they’re well on the way to being finished by the end of April. YEAAAH
These are our upcoming shows which we’re real excited about: Sunday 22nd April @ The Lock Tavern, Camden Saturday 19th May @ Power Bar, Kilburn Saturday 26th May @ The Spice Of Life, Soho Sunday 10th June @ The Sebright Arms, Archway Saturday 16th June @ 93 Feet East, Brick Lane
This is the artwork that we’re using for Living Room. It’s a lino-cut made by the brilliant Maureen Nathan (http://www.maureennathan.com) and we’re hand printing it onto each CD
Yesterday we spent the whole day printing the cds. It took a long time, but with an efficient and ruthless production line, we managed it, even if our hands were very tired.
This is what it looks like on the front
And this is the back
And this is the CD inside!
These are the ones we printed this weekend. It doesn’t look like that much but it really is a lot, we promise.
It’s a limited run of 200 cds, all hand made with love! Living Room comes out tomorrow on Monday 20th Feb via Bandcamp for free download or £2.50 (plus postage) for a physical copy. We’ll also be selling them at gigs for £3. We really hope you like it!
Then we played an 8 song set which was super fun and super sweaty.
We’ve also just made a mailing list which we’re excited about. If you want to join up to it then click on this link and fill out your details. We hope to be updating you with exciting news, upcoming shows, free downloads and future releases.
This weekend we played a really awesome gig at The Lock Tavern playing alongside two really great sets.
First was Woman’s Hour which was really really good. The instrument arrangement reminded me of Portishead, The XX and Left Field and Fiona’s voice was similar to Lykke Li. Basically it was just a really awesome set and we were massively happy to be sharing the stage with them.
Last Sunday we went to Denmark Street to once again lust after things that we’re probably never going to get. But this time I saw something so pretty that I might just be convinced. It’s a Fender Limited Edition Blues Junior III Combo in a green colour.
That picture really doesn’t do it justice so just trust me that it’s awesome.
Later on in the week Soph and Josh finished off our recording of My Little Girl. Soph’s diva side hit rock bottom when she demanded every guitar in the world ever. It looks like guitar heaven.
We’re hoping to upload that recording very soon so watch out for it!
We really enjoyed our set last week at Native Tongue with Stop Look Listen. The sound guy was the most enthusiastic and friendly sound guy we’ve ever had. Normally sound guys are either angry or really high, and he was just really really happy which made a very welcome change. The promoters were lovely and the other bands were great. Win.
On Friday we had a practice in which we tried to finish writing new songs that we started a while ago. We have another 3 hour practice on Wednesday doing more of the same. Hopefully Roundhouse have a flash recorder we can borrow so that if it sounds good enough we could post the rough recording on here for everyone’s judging ears.
Also, this month we have 3 shows:
19th - Proud, Camden for Forward Flash Festival
21st - Bull and Gate, Kentish Town for Club Fandango
28th - Horatia, Islington for Noisy Neighbours
The plan is to be playing new songs at these gigs, so come down!
I’m not going to beat around the bush. I’m just gunna come clean. There’s no point lying to you. I need to get something off my chest. We’re not going to Andorra. But it’s all being rescheduled so we’re not going to cry about it. Although we did find out that there was a pool in our hotel and that beers are really cheap. But we’re still trying not to cry about it..
Distracting us from this bad news is a gig tomorrow (October 4th) that we’re really excited about. It’s a different kind of gig so we’ve worked pretty hard on making a special set. We’ll be playing alternative versions of our songs which should be interesting. It’s Stop Look Listen at Native Tongue Ec1, hosted by Zoe Konez. The guestlist is now open for the show so click the link and get in for cheaper!
We thought it was a joke when we first got the email, or that maybe it was round 2 of Lucas’ internet admirers. But after many thorough reads, our flights were booked, and it turns out that it’s not a joke and that we are actually going to Andorra in a weeks time. Andorra looks like this:
We’ll be staying 4 nights and playing three shows. This whole thing was set up by a nice man called Lambert who is one of the people in charge of this:
We got sent our itinerary the other day, and it looks as if it’s set to be the most organised four days of our lives.
We’ve also got to make a video for this trip, so hopefully by the end of the week we’ll be able to post a really original and endearing video of us all. But in advance, I’m sorry if we don’t deliver.
Officialy on our gap years, yaaah Gap Yaah, we’ve got loads of gigs lined up which we’re pretty excited about. Come to them and heckle us.
September 13th @ The Underbelly September 17th @ The George Tavern September 20th @ The Monarch October 4th Acoustic gig @ Stop Look Listen, Native Tongue EC1 October 19th @ Proud Galleries October 28th @ The Horatia, Islington November 6th @ Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen November 18th @ Carnivale E1 November 29th @ 1001 December 8th @ The Lock Tavern
Also, Sounds Good To Me Too music blog released our home version of Last Song. So here it is, hope you like it.
They got in touch with us recently and said that for their year anniversary they’re making a mix tape of of songs from some bands that they like. They like us so we’re giving them an alternative version of Last Song - a song that was on our first EP.
Today we recorded it at my house and it went SWIMMINGly. Bacon sandwiches gave Josh the boost he needed to become a top notch producer. With a macbook at hand and Garage Band open, he was ready to roll.
Josh doing his thang, No. 1
Josh doing his thang, No.2
Luc made a make-shift drum with a trusty Evening Standard. Standard…
Tomorrow we’re playing at Underage Festival on the Roundhouse Rising stage which will hopefully be a jolly good time.
We held a little competition for 5 under-age-ers to win free tickets to the festival and they’ve all been given away - so thanks and congratulations to those nice people who emailed us!
What we’re all really looking forward to tomorrow is seeing Janelle Monae and any cool free stuff we might be able to get backstage. Hopefully we’ll have some really cool free stuff to report back with tomorrow.
